Today I am going to discuss some common things that people forget during the moving process.
One of the worst things that people often forget to do is transfer the utilities. They show up to their new home and it is either dark, there is no water, or both. Make sure that you get those turned on. We double check with all of our clients to make sure they get this done.
“As soon as you know you’re moving, get the movers on the horn.”
Another thing people often forget is to update their billing address with the post office, Amazon, and any other services that regularly deliver to their property. For me, I forgot to update my dry cleaner on my new address. I took the shirts to him, didn’t receive them, and I called him to see what was up. He told me they delivered them, and sure enough, they were at my old house.
Don’t make the mistake of calling the movers too late. As soon as you know that you are moving, get them on the horn. If you wait too long and they are booked up, you might not have a mover. Then you will have to call all your friends to help you move or you are left trying to move everything yourself.
Finally, set up your garbage service, lawn care, and any other service that will make your transition into a new environment easier.
